The capabilities of the incoherent scatter radars at EISCAT and Sondrestromfjord are described. Geophysical conditions can be monitored by the radar as an input to the launch decision. Comparisons of the same parameter measured by different instruments increase the confidence level of the results. The radars augment the spatial or temporal coverage of the rocket measurements. The radar measurements supplement those of the rocket or balloon by measuring different, but related parameters. Results from radar/rocket coordinated experiments are shown. The rocket itself is a large radar target, so care must be taken in the experiment design and data analysis to avoid spurious results.
