BM Eri, an M giant which had a drop in brightness of about 0.8 in photographic magnitude in 1944 and is suspected to be a long period eclipsing binary, has been observed for radial velocity (-1.4 km s-1) and spectral type and luminosity (M6 III, MV = -2.5). The absolute magnitude is determined from the Wilson-Bappu effect. No secondary spectrum is observed. The star cannot be confirmed to be an eclipsing binary, but possible periods are discussed.
