Equations and boundary conditions for currents and fields in the system comprising the magnetosphere, the ionosphere, and the conducting earth are used to obtain dimensionless parameters and similarity criteria which demonstrate the possibility of modeling the effects of ionospheric-current spreading. Magnetic fields are calculated for the spreading of linear and ring currents. Measurement results obtained with a simulation facility are compared with calculations.
