A method for the improved determination of the orbit of Phobos is presented which involves corrections to measured quantitites which could compensate for the lack of knowledge of the exact coordinates of Mars and the earth. The application of the method is demonstrated with reference to a model problem; the measured quantities considered are the range and range-rate of a Phobos lander.
