Available data from which a mass spectrum can be obtained have been collected for various kinds of astronomical objects, and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test is used to quantitatively intercompare the shapes of the various mass spectra. Given the differences in size, age, location, morphology, evolution, and chemical composition, the similarities found suggest that a single dominant fragmentation process was responsible for the formation of the various objects. Evidence that gravitational instability may be responsible for the various observed mass spectra is also presented.
