We formulate a new ``law'' that describes the relative position of the planets in the solar system. Unlike Bode's law, this prescription did originate from and is supported by physical considerations. Its strongest prediction concerns the location at 1.32+/- 0.08 AU where another terrestrial planet could have been formed but did not. A search for small remnant asteroids of low eccentricities should be carried out at this distance from the Sun.
