New UBVRI photometry and optical spectra for a cool degenerate star which was recently shown to have depressed H (1.6 microns) and K (2.2 microns) fluxes are presented. The star appears too blue in color to have a 4200 K hydrogen atmosphere, as previously suggested. The spectrum shows a weak, broad absorption near 5000 A, with other broad features possibly present. It is suggested that these are pressure-broadened and shifted C2 (Swan) bands in a helium-rich atmosphere at an effective temperature less than or approximately equal to 5000 K. The infrared absorption may also be due to C2 and possibly CO.
