The Parkes-MIT-NRAO (PMN) 4.85 GHz continuum survey of the southern sky was undertaken in 1990 June and November and covered -88 deg less than delta less than -9 deg. This survey used the Parkes 64 m Telescope of the Australia Telescope National Facility and the NRAO seven-beam receiver. This paper describes the maps for the Tropical Survey zone covering the declination band -29 deg less than delta less than -9 deg, which were produced using the Astronomical Image Processing System (AIPS). The maps have a Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM) resolution of approximately 5 min. The root mean square (rms) uncertainty in position for strong sources is approximately 10 sec in right ascension and 8 sec in declination. This uncertainty increases to approximately 30 sec in both right ascension and declination for sources near the flux limits. The rms map brightness fluctuations caused by noise and confusion increase from 9 mJy/beam at delta approximately -9 deg to 11 mJy/beam at delta approximately -29 deg.
