It is shown that the orbital period distribution of AM Her systems is indistinguishable from that of non-magnetic cataclysmic variables for periods shorter than 5h. The only significant difference between the two distributions is the lack of long-period AM Hers, which is well understood. The period gap is clearly present in the AM Her distribution, and there is no need for the various mechanisms that have been proposed to explain its absence.
