An analysis is presented of the orbital evolution of a triple system under conditions when a very close encounter (and possible collision) of the inner pair of the system can occur. The characteristics of such encounters are investigated, including their periodicity, the moments when minimum periastral distance is reached, and the time interval during which the periastral distance does not exceed a given limit. The importance of determining the inclination signs of the orbits of triple systems is emphasized. A combination of inclination signs indicated for the example of Zeta Aqu may mean that this system cannot exist for a long time as a triple one, and may break up due to a collision of the two inner components.
