Photoelectric and photographic observations on the UBV system and photoelectric DDO system data were analyzed in a study of the star cluster Trumpler 5. This material provides information about the cluster's age, distance, luminosity function, chemical composition, morphological structure, and possible kinematics. Within a standard framework of interpretation it was found that the UBV and DDO system data are contradictory. It was hypothesized that UBV-implied and DDO-implied cluster properties can be reconciled if a low Y in Trumpler 5 produces anomalously red color indices for any given triad of stellar surface gravity, effective temperature and metallicity. Qualitative arguments based on the expected difference in the continuum opacities of the atmospheres of giant stars having different Y are made to this effect. Color corrections are proposed which permit the derivation of reasonable physical parameters for Trumpler 5's giants.
