Oh-Ir Stars: Circumstellar Shells
Scientific paper
In the latter classifications of IRAS low-resolution spectra (LRS), 9 candidates of OH/IR stars with SiC circumstellar envelopes are selected out from nearly 2000 known IRAS sources with OH maser emission at 1612 MHz. It is shown that 4 samples, i.e. IRAS 04130+3918, 05373-0810, 06238+0904 and 18551+0323, are actually OH/IR stars with OH emission at 1612 MHz as well as carbon stars with SiC emission at 11.3 μm, another 2 sources - IRAS 08304-4313 and 17371-3021 - are very possibly objects of the same type, but the rest 3 stars (IRAS 16458-4425, 17209-3318 and 17445-3128) need to be investigated still further. Thus it seems that besides oxygen-rich stars, some carbon-rich stars can also display OH maser emission. A brief discussion of the evolution status of this peculiar type of AGB stars is also presented.
