We prove an analogue for odd dimensional manifolds with boundary, in the
$b$-calculus setting, of the higher Atiyah-Patodi-Singer index theorem by
Getzler and Wu, thus obtain a natural counterpart of the eta invariant for even
dimensional closed manifolds.
