The distribution of the ratio of the observed wavelengths of the C IV and semiforbidden C III 1549, 1909 A emission lines was examined in a sample of 189 QSO's. The mean value of the ratio is consistent with the expected magnitude, and the dispersion is in line with typical measuring uncertainties. The results confirm the Wills and Netzer view (1979) that O IV (1402 A) is the sole contributor to the 1400 A emission feature in the QSO's. It was also found that the ratio of the C IV and semiforbidden C III wavelengths is correlated with the emission-like redshift at the 4 sigma level.
