The progress and current situation of the observation and study of spectra of celestial SiO masers since its discovery in 1973 are reviewed. The contents includes: (1) Observational characteristics of spectra of celestial SiO masers. (2) The role which SiO maser molecules plays in the early and late stages of the stellar evolutionary process. (3) The results of theoretical studies on the the shell structure and velocity field of the circumstellar envelope, the mass loss rate in late type stars, and the analysis of velocity spectra by the observation of the spectra of SiO maser. (4) The observation and study of the time variation of SiO maser.
