Consequences of application of the nickel partitioning thermometer to minerals of the prehistoric Makaopuhi Lava are: 1. (1) Poikilitic orthopyroxene did not crystallize in exchange equilibrium with groundmass augite, 2. (2) readjustment of olivine compositions did not extend into the subsolidus range 3. (3) poikilitic orthopyroxene probably crystallized in exchange equilibrium with phenocryst olivine at about 1040°C.
