In this paper we give new insight into the nature of the X-ray emisssion of the Be/X-ray binary candidate 1H1249-637. The X-ray spectrum is more consistent with a white dwarf, rather than a neutron star, as the compact object. This challenges current theories since the primary is a B0.5III star. Otherwise, this object would belong to a new class of objects, hot stars whose X-ray emission is not connected with a compact companion.
