The totality of the cometary mission results does not confirm the current models of cometary phenomena which consider the solar radiation as the sole energy source. The new facts, together with some nonunderstandable old ones (e.g., C3 overabundances in the coma), may be explained by the sublimation products burning if the cometary ices, besides hydrocarbons, nitrogen-rich and other components, contain also free oxygen O2 (≡15 wt.%). The presence of oxygen in the cometary ices follows from the new eruptive concept considering all the minor bodies as a product of explosions of the massive icy envelopes of distant moon-like Ganymede-type bodies saturated by electrolysis products.
