Geneva photometry of seven stars classified F str λ4077 by Bidelman (1981) is presented. Published uvbyβ measurements of five additional stars of this type are used as well to look for a possible link with the classical Am or Ap stars. It is shown that these stars exhibit a whole range of metallicities, the latter being correlated with effective temperature. The existing proper motions point to a Population I membership, although one star seems to have a rather high velocity. It is suggested that this new type of peculiarity may be interpreted in the framework of the diffusion theory and that at least some F str λ4077 stars may represent an intermediate stage between Am and λ Bootis stars, although they are generally cooler.
