Most elliptical galaxies occur in relatively rich clusters, whereas the majority of Seyferts are field galaxies. It is pointed out that this difference might be used to find out whether quasars are generically related to giant ellipticals or to Seyfert galaxies. The fragmentary data that are so far available do not favor the view that quasars occur in cD galaxies.
