A series of V and I CCD images, obtained with the 3.6 meter Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, have been used to investigate the age and spatial distribution of intermediate-age stars within 1 arc minute of the center of the Local Group dwarf elliptical galaxy NGC205. The main results are as follows: (1) the tip of the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) falls near Mbol ~ -5.5, corresponding to progenitor masses of ~ 3M_sun; (2) the location of the AGB sequence in the (I,V-I) color-magnitude diagram suggests that the mean metallicity of the intermediate-age component is near solar; and (3) the density of intermediate-age stars, measured with respect to surface brightness, is constant in the region studied. These data suggest that star formation has not been continuous in NGC205, and it appears that the most recent burst of star formation, which produced the cluster of early-type stars seen within 30 arcsec of the galaxy center, was relatively minor in size compared with what occured 0.5 to 1 Gyr in the past.
