The levels of natural thermoluminescence (TL) were measured in thirty specimens (removed under red light) from 23 Antarctic meteorites of known Al-26 content to explore their thermal and radiation history. Of the 23 samples, 17 showed evidence for a correlation between natural TL and Al-26: samples with Al-26 activities of 45-60 dpm/kg had TL ratios of 2-4, those with Al-26 of 30-45 dpm/kg had TL ratios of 1-2 , while a sample with an Al-26 content of 11 dpm/kg had a TL value of 0.87. The results suggest that the 'half-life' for TL decay is comparable to that of Al-26 and that, for these 17 meteorites, natural TL levels at the time of their fall, and terrestrial storage conditions were similar. The six meteorites not lying on the TL-Al-26 trend have much lower TL than others of comparable Al-26. Three of these have suffered a recent reheating, and two probably reflect a recent severe shock.
