The Atlantic margin of Morocco with its neighbouring Jurassic oceanic crust is one of the oldest on earth. It is conjugate to the Nova Scotia Margin of North America. The SISMAR marine seismic survey acquired over 1000 km of wide-angle seismic profiles in two different zones in order to image the deep structure of the margin, characterize the nature of the crust in the transitional domain and define the geometry of the syn-rift basins. We present results from modelling of 4 wide-angle seismic profiles along and perpendicular to the margin in the southern zone at 33 - 34 ° N. The zone extends from nearly normal oceanic crust in the vicinity of Coral Patch Seamount to the coast at El Jadida and about 130 km inland. 28 ocean bottom seismometer (OBS) deployments and 14 landstations were used to record shots from a 4850 cu in airgun array (79 l) deployed in single bubble mode, with a shot spacing of 150m. The sedimentary basin thickens from 1.5 km on nearly normal oceanic crust to a maximum thickness of 6 km at the base of the continental slope. It is locally perturbed by salt tectonics and reverse faults. The crust thins from 37 km thickness beneath the continent to about 8 km at the western end of the zone. The transitional region has a width of 150 km. Upper crustal velocities are lowest at the continental slope probably due to faulting and fracturing of the upper crust. The continental crust displays three layers, while the transitional and oceanic crust consist of only two layers. The profiles oriented parallel to the margin show crustal thinningtowards the SW limit of the region. This is in good agreement with a narrowing of the transitional zone to the SW indicated by magnetic lineations. Upper mantle velocities around 8.0 km/s are well-defined by OBS and landstation data throughout the model. By comparison the SMART Line 1, situated on the conjugate Nova Scotian Margin shows a generally thicker sedimentary cover and very similar crustal geometry, thinning from about 35 km to 7 km.
