The fundamental plane (FP) relation is studied using the mid infrared (MIR) data from the Spitzer Space Telescope for 51 early-type galaxies in 5 nearby clusters. The MIR FP reveals that, compared to the optical and near infrared, the FP coefficients come closer to that of virial theorem expectation in MIR. The trend is independent of the FP fitting methods, and our result suggests that the stellar population effect is minimized at MIR for the FP, and that a significant portion of the tilt of FP in optical may originate from the stellar population effect.
