The interstellar U90.663 line was observed in laboratory dc glow discharges in mixtures of cyanogen and hydrogen, cyanogen and acetylene, and nitrogen and acetylene, unambiguously confirming Snyder and Buhl's (1971) original assignment of this transition to the HNC molecule. The precise measurement of the rest frequency (90,663.568 plus or minus 0.004 MHz) is in excellent agreement with recent astrophysical values. The absorption can be seen readily under a wide range of experimental conditions, indicating that the HNC molecule may be somewhat more stable and easy to produce than has been assumed.
