The approximately 1-sec microwave pulsations observed in solar flares are attributable to MHD oscillations of the flare loop resulting from the sudden energy release. The millisecond pulsations, on the other hand, result from a nonlinear oscillation regime of loss-cone instability for the plasma waves in the flare loop. Both types of microwave pulsation are useful for flare-plasma diagnostics.
