Recent studies indicate the possibility of MHD surface and body wave propagation along magnetic structures in the solar atmosphere. Observations indicate the existence of guided flows in these structures. Under certain flow and plasma conditions, the surface and body waves become unstable, possibly leading to secondary wave propagation and microturbulence. The study of this (Kelvin-Helmholtz) instability under solar conditions is therefore important. This note surveys the relevant published literature for planar geometries.
