Feldspar grain size measurements and microprobe analyses of coexisting orthopyroxene, olivine, diopside, and metal in twenty equilibrated LL-group chondrites and clasts are used to study the conditions of metamorphism and the relative position of samples within the parent body. Two continuous relative temperature scales are associated with a range of equilibrium temperatures and parallel textural variations; maximum equilibrium temperatures range from less than 600 up to 950 C. Maximum pressure, the pressure gradient, a reduction sequence, and the maximum permissible sampling depth are considered. The data are broadly consistent with simple reheating of colder material within a completely accreted body, but are more consistent with accretion of colder material on a hot but cooling surface.
