We present photographic photometry for 1452 stars in the globular cluster NGC 3201. The Pickering-Racine wedge was used with the CTIO l-m Yale telescope (Δm = 3m.63), and the ESO 3.6-m telescope (Δm = 4m.00) to extend the photoelectric limit from V ∼16.3 to V ∼19.6. For the main-sequence turn-off, we have determined its position to lie at V = 18.0 ± 0.1 (m.e.) and B - V 0.61 ± 0.03 (m.e.). From these values, we calculate the intrinsic values Mυ = 3.93 and (B - V)0 = 0.39. For the cluster as a whole, we derive a distance modulus (m - M)υ = 14.07 ± 0.15 and reddening E(B - V) =0.22±0.03. Using the models of Iben and Rood (1970) and the isochrones of Ciardullo and Demarque (1977), we deduce a range of ages from 7.9 × 109 to 12.3 × 109 yr, depending on the adopted abundances of metals and helium. For purposes of comparison with other age determinations, we adopt (10.6±2.0) × 109 yr. We also confirm the existence of a deficiency of stars over ∼0.7 mag of the subgiant branch, first noted in our paper on the color-magnitude diagram of NGC 288 (Alcaino and Liller 1980c).
