Results are presented of an analysis of the Phobos-2 magnetic field experiments Magma and FGMM, using the upstream solar wind parameters of the Phobos-2 plasma experiments Taus and Aspera. Data were obtained on the compressibility of plasma boundaries and on the correlations between the upstream IMF and the tail properties and between the magnetic field structures and the planetary rotation. On the basis of these results, it is concluded that an intrinsic planetary magnetic field, if it exists, does not play a major role in the interaction between the solar wind and Mars.
