It is shown that there is no compelling evidence for periodicity in the magnetic reversal record. The minimum dispersion method of analyzing time series for periodicity can be performed most efficiently by means of a circular, rather than a linear, model. However, when events occur frequently throughout a predicted cycle, a correction must be made for the wrapping effect. For the magnetic reversal data, this correction changes the significance levels reached by the peaks. The peaks for the reversal data originate as harmonic peaks which are controlled by the long-term variations in magnetic reversal frequency. Such control is indicated by the shift in the phase and period of all the peaks, including the 30 Myr peak, as the data are truncated. If the most recent 18 Myr of the reversal data are deleted, four peaks rather than two reach the 95 percent confidence level.
