An attempt is made to quantify the magnetic field strength of T Tau through analysis of the intrinsic optical polarization (IOP) in the circumstellar envelope. The IOP is plotted as a function of wavelength and the peak polarization is pinpointed in the 0.36-1.6 micron interval. Significant variations in the IOP across all IR wavelengths, however, may be caused by either stellar rotation or stellar activity, the latter producing changes in the magnetic field. It is concluded that insufficient polarimetric data are available for accurately characterizing the T Tau magnetic field.
