The formation of the Ly-alpha line in the Jovian atmosphere is treated by the method of addition of layers. Coherent, complete, and partial redistribution functions are considered. Planetary center to limb reflectivities and emergent line profiles are computed, and comparisons with previous work are done. A local minimum of the reflectivity is shown to appear near the planetary limb in some cases.
