Recent GLIMPSE data analysed by Benjamin et al. (2005) have further confirmed the hypothesis of the existence of an in-plane long bar that is different from the bulge of the Milky Way with the same characteristics that were emphasized some years ago by our team. In this contribution, we briefly discuss the published literature on the topic and argue that the various datasets agree with our previously predicted scenario. First, we describe the available literature on the long bar. Second, new data on the distance of the long bar using with the red clump method are compiled and compared with our model of the long bar. A long bar with a radius around 4 kpc and a position angle of approximately 43 deg., as proposed by Hammersley et al. (2000), produces notable agreement with the red clump data and with the literature on the central in-plane regions of our Galaxy.
