More examples of distributions which closely approach lognormality are given and the suggested lognormal law is discussed further, in order to convey more accurately the sense and spirit with which it has been proposed. The magnitude of distortion which can arise when predictions and comparisons are made on the basis of assumed normal distribution is illustrated by two examples. Attention is drawn to the significance of the magnitude of the dispersion of concentration for making abundance estimates; Ca (small dispersion), Zr (moderate dispersion) and Cr (extreme dispersion) in granite, serve as examples. An examination of the relationship between the ratio and the magnitude of dispersion of concentration shows that observation accords satisfactorily with theory.
