The isotopic composition of hydrogen in a number of chondrites has been investigated experimentally. The chondrites included Manych LL3, Savchenskoye LL4, and Krymka LL3. The chondrites Rakity L3, Saratov L4, and Elenovka L5 were also studied. Samples of the chondrites were divided into magnetic and nonmagnetic components, and pyrolized at temperatures in the range 200-1000 C. Analysis of the pyrolized samples indicated that all of the samples except the magnetic component of Krymka LL3 had a deuterium level lying in the range typical of terrestrial material. Stepwise heating of nonmagnetic and magnetic samples from 600 to 1000 C showed an exclusively high level of deuterium content. Variations in deuterium content in the magnetic samples of the Krymka LL3 chondrite were compared with variations in the levels of Xe-136 and Xe-129.
