Infrared Spectrometers: Space Instrumentation
Scientific paper
The SWS, one of the two spectrometers of ISO, is a grating instrument that covers the wavelengths between 2.5 μm and 45 μm at a spectral resolution of 1000. A Fabry-Perot interferometer can be used behind the grating section, to achieve a spectral resolution of 20.000 in the wavelength range 15 - 35 μm. The design and development status of the instrument and its sub-units is presented, together with an overview of the scientific capabilities.
