This paper presents an outline of the process of generation of the all-sky survey and additional observations for the Infra-Red Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) and describes methods used to schedule these observations into observing sequences. It describes factors and techniques which lead to the high levels of observing efficiency that were achieved (88 percent). Examples of typical observing sequences are presented.
