Based on 154-cm Cordoba reflector spectroscopic observations, the physical conditions and relative abundance ratios of the NGC 4945 ionized medium are discussed. Results indicate that for an electron temperature of 1000 K, the ionized medium has a less than 1250/cu cm electron density which decreases outwards. The N(N)/N(S) ratio is found to be nearly constant, while N(N)/N(H) and N(S)/N(H) were seen to decrease with distance from the nucleus, indicating larger nitrogen and sulfur abundances in the central regions. The detected mild or null abundance gradients of some elements such as nitrogen are more characteristic of late type normal galaxies than of barred ones. The additional lack of any kinematical evidence of a bar, and the unfavorable conditions this object presents to grasp its morphology, make it improbable that NGC 4945 could be classified as a barred galaxy.
