The effect of a uniform weak external magnetic field on a rapidly rotating black hole is investigated. The spinor representation of the electromagnetic field is employed, and it is assumed that the external field is inclined at some angle to the rotation axis of the black hole. The distant asymptotic form of a solution to the electromagnetic Teukolsky equations with boundary conditions is obtained, and Chandrasekhar's (1976) method is applied to construct the distant asymptotic form of the four-vector potential, from which the complete electromagnetic field at infinity can be calculated. The magnetic-field components parallel and perpendicular to the rotation axis are examined, locally measured electromagnetic-field components are analyzed, and changes in the black hole's angular momentum are computed. The results show that the angular-momentum component perpendicular to the magnetic field decreases exponentially with time, the component parallel to the field remains constant, and the energy outflow rate of the black hole monitored at infinity is zero. It is concluded that the distantly observed changes in angular momentum are independent of the black hole's rotation rate for the particular magnetic-field arrangement considered.
