A high resolution far UV spectrum of the interacting binary KX And (HD 218393) was obtained near the minimum radial velocity of the visual shell lines. It shows strong emission lines (P Cygni profiles) originating in an extended atmosphere and strong, relatively narrow, absorption lines possibly originating in a cold shell rotating around the primary B2III-IV star. Binary KX And was compared with interacting binary HD 41335 (B2V) and with Rho Per (BIV). The effects of the hot secondary are obvious in Rho Per, while in HD 41335, a system probably more similar to KX And, the interaction with a companion (counter stream or density increase) is manifested during a very short time interval (one day).
