Based on the author's observation and research, it is demonstrated that the abnormal refraction is mainly caused by the local circumstance around the observation room. The abnormal refraction, which shows annual and daily variations, affects the systematic errors of catalogues and reference system seriously. These kinds of influences on the catalogues, which are made from astrolabe and meridian circle observations, are discussed, and some suggestions are put forward on the study of abnormal refraction effects.
