A zonal degree 2 pressure field of about 3×107Pa acting at the core-mantle boundary is shown to be able to explain simultaneously the discrepancies between the observed and hydrostatic values for the geometrical and dynamical flattenings as well as the discrepancies between observed and classical Chandlerian and nearly diurnal rotational eigenperiods.
