In this volume, the methods adopted for the reduction of the Hipparcos data are described in detail. The data processing tasks belong to the great concerted efforts within the project. The astrometric and photometric parameters for the 120000 selected stars observed in the Hipparcos main field will be derived by the two consortia, FAST and NDAC. The Tycho consortium will derive the astrometric and two-colour photometric parameters for the brightest 400000 stars of the sky observed by the Hipparcos star mapper. Contents: 1. The main astrometric processing chain. 2. The Tycho data processing. 3. Special tasks. 4. Finalisation of the Catalogue. 5. Simulation and implementation. 6. Preparatory and parallel work.
