A model has been developed for the High Pressure Gas Scintillation Proportional Counter (HPGSPC) that will serve as a detector for the Italian X-ray Astronomy satellite, or 'SAX'. Broadband capacity is established to be greater than 4-100 keV, so that the HPGSPC can be taken to be complementary to the Large-area Proportional Counter of the Astro C satellite above 30 keV.
