HD 17156 has the largest eccentricity (0.67) and longest period (21.2 d) among the currently known transiting systems. We confirm the transiting nature of the extrasolar planet HD 17156: three independent light curves obtained on UT 2007 October 1 show the transit. We model these light curves and the published radial velocities of Fischer et al. (2007) to derive revised system parameters, and find that the planet has an unusually high density: 2.5 g/cc.
