The Herschel Orion Protostar Survey (HOPS) is painting a portrait of protostellar evolution with unparalleled detail. This Herschel Open Time Key Project is a study of 286 protostars in the Orion molecular clouds rendered with a palette of mid-IR spectroscopy (Spitzer), near-IR imaging (Hubble), and far-IR imaging and spectroscopy (Herschel/PACS). These data are being augmented by ground-based observations at mm, sub-mm and IR wavelengths. By modeling the resulting 1.6 to 160 micron spectral energy distributions, strong constraints can placed on the fundamental properties of the protostars such as bolometric luminosity, envelope density, and infall rate. We will show initial results that demonstrate the ability of HOPS to inventory molecules and grains in protostellar envelopes and trace infall and outflow with molecular and atomic lines. The Spitzer IRS spectra display numerous ice and mineralogical features while PACS spectra exhibit lines of CO, H2O and OH that originate in gas heated by infall or outflow. We highlight two odd but interesting cases in our sample: a unique protostar showing no mid or far-IR line emission which is driving an outflow detected at millimeter wavelengths, and the first unambiguous detection of crystalline forsterite in a cold protostellar envelope.
