Results of ground testing of a nickel hydrogen battery are presented. Improvements in the basic packaging of the battery in order to optimize in-orbit and ground testing are suggested. The ground test results are parameterized to show the effect of the thermal characteristics of the cells, which are designed to ensure optimum operation in the space environment encountered after launch. A correlation system is developed to extrapolate the ground test results obtained for the batteries to test results that would be obtained in a space environment.
