The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to build a 100-meter unblocked telescope for radio astronomical research in Green Bank, West Virginia. In December 1988, a workshop' was held at the NRAO Green Bank site to gather the scientific considerations for the design of a replacement for the collapsed 300-foot radio telescope. A technical study group (TSG) consisting of NRAO engineers and scientists was formed to investigate various design parameters and constraints. TSG completed its report. "A study of technical issues and tradeoffs in the design of the Green Bank telescope" in February 1989'. A formal proposal was submitted to NSF in June 1989. The scientific merit of the Green Bank Telescope (GBT) can be found elsewhere3. This paper is to present the design of the GBT antenna.
