In the present paper, the gravitational potential of oblate planets is expressed in the form of series that converges for various planetary configurations, including that of an oblate ellipsoid of revolution. Formulas for linear conversion of the series coefficient to coefficients of a series in spherical harmonic functions, and vice versa, are derived. Using these formulas, the coefficients of the series expansion of the potential beyond an oblate ellipsoid are transformed into the coefficients of a series in the spherical harmonic functions of mixed gravity force anomalies prescribed at the ellipsoid.
